Boundary Adjustment Reporting System (BARS) Tutorial

The Boundary Adjustment Reporting System (BARS) allows you to search for specific information based on user defined search criteria.  The following tutorial explains how to utilize the database.

1. Visit our website at http://www.mba.state.mn.us/

2.Within the left navigation bar, under Resources, click on Boundary Adjustment Reporting System (BARS) or visit http://www.mba.state.mn.us/Docket.html.

3. You may search for information by docket number; type of boundary adjustment; county, city or township; date range; legislative districts; or any combination of these attributes

a. You can search by a specific docket if you know the docket number.  For example, if the docket number is A-7760, type that in the box and click Submit.

                  

You will see the information page concerning this specific docket.  For most dockets, at the bottom of the page, you will see:

                

You may click on any of the document names to view the scanned document in PDF format. MBAU staff is currently working on scanning and uploading dockets.  Many of the older dockets (1959 - 1990) are no longer accessible to staff and therefore cannot be scanned.  The exception is Orderly Annexation dockets which will all be scanned as time permits.

       b. If you are looking for a specific type of boundary adjustment, at the top of the page you will see:

                        

i.  Transaction Type: Click on the down arrow to see the types of boundary adjustments.    

ii.  Status: Click the down arrow to see what is searchable.  If you click “All” it will show dockets that are pending,   finalized, denied, dismissed, etc.).

iii.  Date Range: The default search is All Dates; Filed Dates is the date the docket was received by MBAU; Resolved Dates is the date the docket was approved, denied, withdrawn, etc.

iv.  Geographic Search Options: The default search is All Areas; Place Name allows you to choose Transfer From and Transfer To. Note: The listings under Transfer From and Transfer To are first listed by county, then by “city of…” (listed alphabetically), then by “township of…” (listed alphabetically).  Only locations that have had a boundary adjustment are listed.

v. The dockets that fall within the parameters of your search will be displayed.  To view these dockets, just  click on the city/township listed in the Project Name column.
